The Greek government has presented a written statement at the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU, which states that the Beleri case will be a condition for the future of Albania's membership process.

The letter states that today Greece has presented to COREPER an express reservation regarding the progress of Albania's accession process, making it clear that it will not give its consent to the progress of Albania's accession negotiations, as long as there is no positive developments for assuming the duties of the elected mayor of Himara Municipality, Fredi Beleri.

The statement in question accompanies the letter, has been approved and sent to Tirana, the Greek authorities report.

A few weeks ago, Athens had kept the letter suspended, to send a message regarding the issues that concern Albania.

Afterwards, Athens received very strong pressure from both Germany and the Spanish presidency to change its position, which it did not, as recent developments prove.

It is recalled that on December 4, the Special Court of Albania will consider Fredi Beler's request for the oath as mayor of Himara Municipality.
