British newspaper: Albanians are the leaders of drug trafficking in the United

"Albanian gangs lead the drug trade in the United Kingdom and Italy", with these words began the article of the British newspaper, ' The European Conservative' , which blames the Albanian gangs for the increase in the use of cocaine in the West.

Foreign media continue to write about the Albanian criminal groups that are controlling the international traffic of hard and simple drugs.

According to the British, 'The European Conservative', in the organization's global cocaine report for 2023, Albanian gangs are described as "very active" in receiving drug shipments throughout Western Europe.

He adds that they now "exercise considerable control" over the entire UK drug market.

Even in Italy, the "Albanian-speaking groups" are listed together with the notorious criminal organization "Ndrangheta", which at the beginning of this year was the target of a major European anti-criminal operation.

The UN report notes that here and in Ireland, where "Albanian organized crime has begun to establish its presence in the country", the growing dominance of Albanian gangs "could lead to violent clashes in the future" with local organizations.

This is now understood to have "driven" targeted killings in Montenegro, Serbia and Albania since 2015. "These conflicts," the report said,

have spread to several EU countries, with isolated killings reported in Austria, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands and Spain.

However, it appears that Balkan criminal groups use selective violence, rather than using it indiscriminately.

The murders may mainly affect those who choose to be involved in drug pushing, but the trade as a whole 'relies', as the report makes clear when discussing the UK drug market, 'on the exploitation of vulnerable people, including the youth".

The report states that the operations are highly professional, given that they are controlled "with a certain degree of transnational coordination, in addition to forming direct relationships with suppliers in Latin America."

The findings follow diplomatic spats between British and Albanian officials over the illegal entry of Albanian migrants into the UK through the Channel.

About half of the total number of Channel migrants last year came from Albania, despite being a safe country, which officials said "had no occasion to routinely offer asylum seekers".

This prompted Dan O'Mahoney, the channel's clandestine threat commander, to claim that there is a “large number of [Albanian immigrants] who are deliberately gaming the system” for illegal purposes.
