A 29-year-old Albanian man was arrested in Italy on charges of violent robbery. Elis Kanani is accused of three robberies within a few hours in two towns in the Catania area. It was the car used in the crime that revealed the young man, precisely an 'Alfa Romeo 156' filmed by video surveillance systems.
According to the prosecution, on the evening of December 2, 2023, he attacked a tobacco shop in Zafferana Etnea, threatening the owner, who he raped, twisting her arm and forced her to hand over 600 euros from the cash register.
A few hours later, in the same municipality, but this time armed with an axe, Kanani entered the bar, threatening the two employees and after cutting the cash register, took 160 euros. The next day, he robbed a grocery store in Viagrande.
"Also in this case, says the Prosecutor's Office of Catania, the suspect had grabbed and thrown to the ground a customer who was trying to stop him, and then jumped on the counter taking 200 euros.
The carabinieri of Zafferana Etnea, together with Viagrande's colleagues, identified Kanan on December 3, but he remained untraceable until he was caught in the last few days.
