British justice has sentenced a gang of 4 Albanians who ran a cocaine trade of 2 million pounds in Preston and Chorley to a total of 24 years in prison.
More concret:
- Bekin Hasmehaj, 35 years old, was sentenced to 10 years in prison
- Albi Hoxhaj, 36 years old, was sentenced to 5 years and 10 months in prison,
- Klevis Prensi, 33 years old, was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison,
- Altin Nikolli, 37 years old, was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison
Prosecutors described the operation as "similar to a taxi company" with hotlines operating 24/7. The gang had call centres, located in Manchester to ensure operations were run from a separate police precinct, and employed a network of couriers, working 12-hour shifts, to deliver drugs to customers. The couriers, who were mostly from Albania and Europe, were given false Italian identity documents to avoid detection.
Bekin Hasmehaj held a high leadership position within the group, described by the prosecutor. "It is evident that the supply of drugs was fluid and fast," she said.
Customers would call a call center and place an order, leaving a zip code for delivery. The call handler would then use another phone to send a courier to deliver the drugs," she said. If a courier was arrested, the call center would be moved to another area of Manchester.
"The Albanian group's pattern was complex and designed to make it difficult for police to identify cash or drugs," Ms Scott-Bell said. "They were aware of the geographical boundaries (between police forces) and used that to their advantage."
Between 2018 and 2020, the hotlines made over 591,678,000 contacts about the supply of cocaine in Preston and Chorley. Lancashire Constabulary drug expert Det Con Richard Shires said a modest estimate - based on each customer who bought a single bag of cocaine - showed the firm took in between 26kg and 34.6kg over 651 days of operation. However, in all likelihood, many customers would buy more than one bag at a time.
On 29 January 2020, officers raided Hasmehajt's home in Marchwood Close, Blackrod and found large amounts of cash, drugs and mobile phones. There were new phones, still in their boxes, and SIM cards that had been used in multiple phones. There were also the trappings of a criminal lifestyle, with new designer clothes in the wardrobe.
Sentencing, Judge Darren Preston said: "Class A drugs in this country destroy society and individual lives. Users become addicts and innocent members of the public become victims through addicts who steal, rob and steal to fund their fix. their future. Each of you have played an important part in trading in this misery."
