Berisha's statements and news about Olldash, KLJ: Judges are being
Pole of Justice / KLAJ

The serious statements of the former prime minister Sali Berisha towards the judges and prosecutors of SPAK, as well as the articles in the media about the judge Iliriana Olldashi, have prompted the reaction of the High Judicial Council.

Today, the HCJ has raised the alarm that intimidation, threats and illegal influence on judges are being attempted through these statements and writings in the media.

We remind you that Berisha has severely attacked the SPAK and GJKKO prosecutors and judges, calling them, among other things, a "criminal gang". Today, some news circulated in the media about Judge Iliriana Olldashi, who gave the decision to change the measure from prison to house arrest for Jamarbër Malltez. According to the news, she is in a conflict of interest after she bought an apartment at the Malltez palaces in the former Partizani complex in 2015.

The full reaction of the KLGJ:

The Supreme Judicial Council, as a body tasked by the Constitution to guarantee the independence, accountability and smooth functioning of the judicial power, has closely followed recent developments regarding statements by public figures and some articles published in the media, which in the content of they seriously damage the image and dignity of the judges at the special courts for corruption and organized crime.

The Council notes with regret that these publications reflect only a few examples of unjustified media attacks on the judges of the Republic of Albania, as well as constitute an attack on the judges due to their duty, aiming at their intimidation, threat and illegal influence through media harassment.

At the same time, the Supreme Judicial Council assesses that these attitudes not only negatively affect the public's trust in the judicial power, but also create a wrong image of the activity of judges during the exercise of their duties with the aim of forcing them to give decisions contrary to principles of independence and impartiality.

The High Judicial Council invites all stakeholders to respect the judges and their commitment to strengthening the rule of law, as the administration of justice must be free from any kind of influence or interference from public or private entities.

In compliance with the legal provisions in force, we bring to your attention that the legal means to oppose a court decision is to appeal to a higher court.
