The linguist Bahri Beci, father of Benet Beci and member of the Academy of Sciences and external member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo, has passed away. 

The bitter news was announced by his son, the mayor of Shkodra, Benet Beci.


"Dear friends, It is with pain and sadness that we inform you that our father, Bahri Beci, passed away. Thank you, father, for the beautiful memories and the good name you left us, for your advice and wisdom, for your consistency and rationality, for the reasoning and example with which you led us and made us proud.

On Tuesday, tributes will be held at the Academy of Sciences, at 9:00-11:30, while the final procession to Sharra Cemetery at 12:00. Receptions will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, then on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 1:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Sheraton Hotel. Bahri Beci was born in Shkodër in 1936, in a family with patriotic traditions. Immediately after finishing his university studies (1958), he was appointed a scientific researcher at the Institute of Linguistics and Literature, where he performed important management duties, as department head and project manager, scientific secretary and director.

In order to train a new generation of researchers, Bahri Beci was sent for specialization in Paris, where he defended his doctorate with the topic Le système vocalique et consonantique du parler de la ville du Shkodra / "The voice and consonant system of the speech of the city of Shkodra.

Then, upon returning to Tirana, he completed his first degree dissertation with the study "Central Georgian dialects" and his second degree dissertation with the study "Northwestern Albanian dialects and the phonetic system of the Shkodra dialect".

Bahri Beci's university activity spans several countries, including the Institute of Oriental Languages ​​and Civilizations in Paris INALCO.

Bahri Beci është anëtar i Akademisë së Shkencave të Shqipërisë (2008) dhe anëtar i jashtëm i Akademisë së Shkencave dhe Arteve të Kosovës dhe i redaksisë së Atlas Linguorum Europae (ALE).

Fusha kryesore e veprimtarisë shkencore-kërkimore të Bahri Becit ka qenë historia e dialekteve dhe nëndialekteve të shqipes. Brenda kësaj problematike vend qendror zunë studimet dialektologjike për të folmet veriperëndimore dhe qendrore të shqipes (Shkodër, Dibër).

Bahri Beci mori pjesë si delegat dhe nënshkrues i Rezolutës së Kongresit të Drejtshkrimit (1972) dhe është autor i dy studimeve monografike për proceset njësuese në formimin e shqipes letrare të sotme. Si studiues në gjuhësinë ballkanologjike Bahri Beci ka lënë gjurmë me kontributet për pozicionin e shqipes në lidhjen gjuhësore ndërballkanike.

Beci synthesized the achievements of his work in normative works. Bahri Beci's scientific work is characterized by the synergy of the researcher in the research expedition and at the same time in a deep contemporary Western formation process.
