Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton was found dead at his £1.7 million home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14, aged 46. A preliminary investigation revealed his body was found by his manager and close friend, Paul Speak, who had gone to pick him up for a flight to Dubai.

According to testimony given at the court hearing, Hatton was last seen on September 12 and “appeared well.” However, he failed to show up for a scheduled event and was later found “lifeless” with a “rope” around his neck.

Prosecutor Alison Mutch stated that the preliminary cause of death is "hanging", while the case will return to court on March 20, 2026, after reviewing the full police file and additional evidence.

Family and friends have said Hatton was in "a good period" of life, planning a return to the ring in December and traveling with his children. His son, Campbell, said the family is trying to cope with the pain "day by day."

His funeral was attended by thousands of fans and well-known figures such as Liam Gallagher, Wayne Rooney and Tyson Fury, paying tribute to one of British boxing's most beloved icons.
