Rey Manaj was Albania's hero in the victory over Serbia. He scored the decisive goal, giving the Rossoneri 3 points.
He says he did not make the eagle gesture to provoke the Serbs. It is worth noting that Manaj was punished with a red card, not for the gesture, but for celebrating near the opponents' bench, according to the head of the Albanian Football Association, Armand Duka.
The eagle gesture with hands is not prohibited, as it has no racist meaning, except that it shows pride in being Albanian.
"Of course I didn't think we would go to Serbia and win the game. Even if I hadn't scored, if someone else had, I would have been even more satisfied. What matters is that we got the three points and made history. All the players we played, those who came on in the second half and those who didn't play, I believe we all have the same value.
"All the players were emotional before the match. I did the eagle because it was something I felt at that moment, I hadn't planned it before and I felt it that way. It wasn't a provocation towards the Serbian players either, I just wanted to celebrate with the eagle. We had pressure and everything went the way we wanted," said Manaj.
