Distria Krasniqi has won the title of European champion for the third time in her career, bringing honor to Kosovo. The double Olympic medalist won the gold medal at the European Judo Championships being held in Podgorica, Montenegro.

Distria started the competition unrivaled in the first round, while in the second round or in the 1/8 stage she defeated her Serbian opponent Milica Nikolic, in the competitions up to 52 kilograms. The judoka from Peja was significantly better, forcing her opponent Nikolic to make several mistakes until she received a red card.

Krasniqi was also irresistible in the quarterfinals against Dutch judoka Naomi van Krevel. In this match, Distria first took a point with a 'waza-ari', then defeated her with an ippon, advancing to the semifinals of the European Championship.

In the semifinals, the pejania was again the better one, this time defeating the Spaniard Ariane Toro Soler, also by ippon to secure passage to the final.

Distria managed to triumph in the final against Odette Giuffridas, an opponent she is familiar with (having defeated her in her last two fights), managing to triumph by ippon.
