Rama urged McGonigal to investigate Democratic Party funding
Prime Minister Edi Rama and former FBI agent Charles McGonigal

When the McGonigal scandal began to be made public in the media a little over a year ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama would proudly declare to the media that the corrupt former FBI agent "has a friend" and that he "is proud" of his friendship.

When the allegations continued to get even more serious, as Rama's many private meetings with Charles McGonigal emerged on the scene, the head of the Albanian government tried to downplay his company, denying they were 'friends'.

While today, McGonigal has been sentenced to prison, and will probably be locked up behind bars in the cell, precisely for his friendship, secret meetings and corruption by Rama and the people close to him.

The U.S. court has sentenced McGonigal to 28 months in prison for receiving $225,000 and concealing contacts with Prime Minister Edi Rama.

According to the US indictment, McGonigal made secret visits to Albania, where he also held meetings with Rama, which he did not report.

He maintained an ongoing relationship with the Albanian prime minister, proving in fact what Rama himself said he had a friend, and how he asked him to launch a criminal investigation into the funding of the Democratic Party that was lobbying in the US at the time.

Through friendship, but also bags of cash handed to McGonigal, a total of $225,000 unclaimed, Rama managed to bribe one of the fbi's top officials, using it as a suicide bomber to hit the opposition in Albania.
