The former Minister of the Interior, Saimir Tahiri, appeared today at SPAK, where he was summoned for questioning.

He was accompanied by his lawyer, Maks Haxhia .

The former Minister of the Interior has appeared at the doors of SPAK transformed with fallen and gray hair, unlike before he was sentenced to prison for abuse of office.

He is currently being investigated for his wealth, which according to an investigation has moved him to construction, medical tourism and aesthetic centers.

On February 4, 2022, the Appeal of the Court Against Organized Crime and Corruption after a marathon session, sentenced Tahir to 5 years in prison for 'Abuse of duty'.

But with a shortened trial, the sentence was reduced to 3 years and 4 months of imprisonment. Tahiri was convicted only for "Abuse of duty" while "escaping" the charges of "Corruption of high officials", "Trafficking of narcotics carried out in cooperation" and "Structured criminal group". 

He stayed only one year and four months in the cell, until June 2, 2023, when the Court of Elbasan made the decision that the former minister should serve the remaining sentence of 1 year, 8 months and 15 days in his apartment.

The decision for the release was made by the judge of the Court of Elbasan, Matilda Fetahu, and the reason was a medical report which stated that the wife is unable to because of her health condition and that the former high official will take care of the two minor children.
