Rama to Euronews: Protests over Zvërnec are a "hybrid war", being used by the enemies of Albania and Israel

Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated in an interview with Euronews that the protests against the planned project in Zvërnec are part of a "hybrid war" that, according to him, is being waged against Albania and is instrumentalizing citizens' environmental concerns.

Speaking about the project worth around 4 billion euros, which is expected to be developed in a sensitive ecological area known for the presence of flamingos and sea turtles, Rama said that the public debate around it has been overtaken by an organized narrative with a broader political background.

According to the prime minister, the protests do not constitute the core of the issue, but are "part of a broader influence mechanism" that exploits citizens' sensitivities to environmental issues.

"Albania is in a hybrid war. We are being attacked. I have seen it through the media or through reading that it was happening in other countries, but now I am seeing it in my country," Rama declared.

Asked by Euronews who is exerting this influence, he replied that it is about "various forces" that, according to him, have started this process since the first moments of the public debate about the project.

Rama added that the situation is being "weaponized on a large scale," being used by "enemies of Albania and Israel," and also referred to the existence of a narrative linking the project to allegations of a secret agreement involving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jared Kushner, aimed at resettling Palestinians on Albanian territory.

"There is a complete fantasy that talks about a secret agreement... which is completely untrue," he said.

Earlier, Rama accused the Iranian regime of fueling a disinformation campaign regarding the discussed Zvërnec project, linking the debate to what he described as a hybrid war against Albania.
