The Democratic Party has filed a lawsuit with the Electoral College against the decision of the Regulatory Commission that finally certified on May 11th and August 28th that declared the Socialist Party the winner of 83 mandates.
In the lawsuit filed with the Electoral College, the Democratic Party has requested the invalidation of the May 11, 2025 elections, claiming that the process was accompanied by serious legal violations and irregularities.
According to the DP, these violations are documented and confirmed by reports from international monitoring organizations, including the OSCE-ODIHR, as well as by practices collected during the process.
The lawsuit states that the result announced by the State Election Commission on May 11, 2025 is invalid and cannot be accepted as such.
'Since these violations are documented and confirmed by reports of international monitoring organizations such as OSCE-ODIHR, as well as by practices collected during the process, it is clear that the result announced by the State Election Commission on May 11, 2025 is invalid and cannot be accepted as such. Furthermore, the State Election Commission, headed by Ilirjan Celibashi, did not take any measures to prevent or address these problems.
Only a fair and courageous decision of the Electoral College would serve as a guarantee for the protection of democratic principles, respect for the will of the citizens and the establishment of a necessary precedent for the future of electoral processes in Albania. Therefore, for all these reasons, and taking into account that the evidence and arguments presented are complete and irrefutable, we request that: In the trial session before the College, the Electoral College be finally requested to accept this lawsuit in full according to its object, by deciding: Amending Decision No. 34, dated 28.08.2025 of the Regulatory Commission at the KOZ, by deciding to reject the proposal of the State Election Commissioner (SEC) for the announcement of the final result of the Assembly Elections of May 11, 2025,' the DP's lawsuit states.
In the May 11 elections, the Socialist Party won 83 seats, the Democratic Party-Alliance for a Greater Albania won 50 seats. The Social Democratic Party won three seats, the Opportunity won two, and the Together Movement and the Albania Initiative won one seat each.
