Prime Minister Edi Rama has responded to the High Judicial Council after the reaction of the institution in defense of the judges who have been publicly attacked by the head of government for several days, due to the decisions taken by them regarding the blocking of the demolitions of some structures that occupy public spaces.
Rama mocks the HJC by saying that it has forgotten its fundamental role, to "worry about the quality of justice, as well as to guarantee the public that the decisions taken by the judges are to its detriment".
According to Rama, the HJC is right only when it says that for dissatisfaction with the decisions of the judges, it should turn to the relevant institutions, which is why it says it will do so.
Rama's full reaction:
I read the reaction of the HJC, the highest self-government body of the judiciary, regarding what I have shared with the public about some scandalously brutal decisions in defense of the occupiers of public space and to the detriment of the legal order, the public interest as well as the communities directly affected by these decisions.
The HJC has fallen for too long, forgetting that its fundamental role is to care about the quality of justice, as well as to guarantee the public that decisions taken by judges to their detriment do not go unanalyzed and judges are not malevolent people who do whatever they want with the law in the name of independence.
The HJC has also forgotten how the highest instance of judicial self-government has not only the right but also the duty to take seriously the concerns of the parties affected by blind decisions of judges, which in this case are obedient due to the lack of sensitivity to the public interest.
The HJC has forgotten other things more important, but at least it has told a truth that I agree with very much, underlining that "any complaint or allegation regarding the conduct or integrity of a judge should be addressed to the relevant institutions", which I have informed the public about in each of the cases, that we will do by addressing the HJC and the HIJ as the "respective institutions".
Concluding with this for today, I tell the members of the HJC not to waste their time judging how I do the job for which the Albanian people voted for me - my everyday judge to whom I have no way not to openly explain why some illegal erections in the middle of the street do not leave like the others, who receive the unjustifiable protection of some judges insensitive to the public interest - if it focuses on its own work, which the Germans leave much to wish for in view of Albania 2030 in the EU
