The President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, announced tonight his divorce with his wife Monika Kryemadhi after 25 years of marriage.
The Meta-Kryemadhi divorce comes at a time when both are being verified by SPAK after two reports were filed against them, for cosmetic surgeries and for lobbying payments made in the USA.
"Ms. Kryemadhi is my ex-wife. And today I followed the legal path for this issue and I also informed my son, Besar Ilir Meta, who told me a while ago that when we have so many tensions and problems with each other, you can find a more peaceful solution and I believe I have found a solution", said Meta in an interview on Syri TV.
He also gave the reasons that led him to such a decision. Meta says that the cause of the crisis was political clashes.
"First, I think she is innocent. Second, Batoni (Haxhiu) told me at a dinner at Kodra e Diellit that "I thought you would share it since the mandates left". I mentioned the issue of mandates that it has been a very big rift between us. It was not a game and it is not a game. The issue of mandates is a crime for the Albanian people.
I have expected from her a reflection from her and the deputies and no one took the phone to ask what you think if you have gone against it. I did not make her the head of the party, as you said. It has had its own very large contributions.
After my forced election as President, Petrit Vasili became president, because of his experience, political clarity, and she became vice president as a supporter and to hold the line. And then came the elections, the poor result in Fier and Rama's pressure on the MPs because it became clear that we were heading towards the opposition.
Then it was thought of as a solution to keep the party more united, and because of the energies it had. It has its own contributions that no one has denied and does not deny. But now this is a relationship which has become impossible and this is a more peaceful solution for everyone", said Ilir Meta.
The leadership of the party on the one hand and the investigation launched by SPAK against them served as an impetus to increase tensions in the marital relationship as both increased the dose of accusations between them.
The Meta-Kryemadhi couple, parents of three children, started their "marital separation" unofficially during the time when Meta was appointed President of the Republic.
The Chief refused to take the position of First Lady. She succeeded him to her daughter, Era, who, as a minor, accompanied her father in various ceremonies, fulfilling the void left by Kryemadhi, who took on the difficult task of leading the party in the absence of Ilir Meta. The competence that he did not fulfill properly, according to Meta, after he led the Freedom Party to destruction with the decisions made.
