The new National Council of the Democratic Party, elected by the Assembly on April 30, is expected to hold its first meeting between May 10-12.

This will be the first meeting of the new members of this Council and in addition to the constitution, in this meeting will be voted for the Vice Presidents, the Secretary General, the secretariat and the members of the Presidency. It is not yet known which candidates will run for the post.

Next week, Democrats of the Re-establishment Commission are expected to have elected the chairman of the PD parliamentary group, after dismissing Enkelejd Alibeaj from the post in the Assembly on April 30. The successor of the latter will be dismissed by the National Council as deputy chairman of the DP, and then automatically takes over the leadership of the parliamentary group. The same procedure is followed for the position of the other Deputy Speaker, who holds the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

The meeting of the National Council and the election of the governing structures will be followed on May 22 with the election of the new chairman. Candidates have until May 7 to apply, while so far only former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has confirmed his candidacy.
