The Special Court of Appeals against Corruption and Organized Crime has left in force this Monday the security measure "prison arrest" for the President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta .

It is learned that at this session, former President Ilir Meta was not present, but was represented by attorney Kujtim Cakrani.

We recall that Meta is requesting the replacement of the prison sentence with a milder measure, with the lawyer arguing that there is no longer any possibility for Ilir Meta to tamper with the evidence, because the investigation has been closed and the file has gone to trial.

The former president was arrested on October 21, 2024, and has been in pretrial detention since then.

Ilir Meta is accused of several serious criminal offenses, including passive corruption and money laundering.
