The President of the Republic Bajram Begaj met today with the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization, Antonio Guterres. At the beginning of the meeting, President Begaj congratulated the Secretary General for the commitment and vision shown in the direction of the UN.
The Head of State underlined the contribution made by Albania in the last two years, for peace and security, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. According to President Begaj, Albania's commitment to the Security Council is a confirmation of Albania's role as a factor of stability not only in the Western Balkan region, but also beyond.
The objectives of Sustainable Development have been the focus of the High Level Week of the 78th Session of the UN Assembly, so in this regard, President Begaj expressed to the Secretary General Albania's maximum commitment to the implementation of the SDGs and Agenda 2030.
Begaj also focused on developments in the Western Balkans region. The Head of State underlined that Albania supports the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, mediated by the European Union and supported by the United States, which would enable both countries, as well as the entire region, to successfully continue their integration journey in the EU.
As a whole, the Western Balkans is going through a very dynamic period, so Albania will continue to play its role in strengthening the cooperation between the states, in function of their stability and progress.
