The head of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, met today with a delegation of senior officials from Ukraine, to whom he expressed "support for their courage in confronting Russian aggression".

Basha says that he has submitted to the Council of Europe a resolution that basically recommends that Russia pay for the damages caused by the invasion of Ukraine, and this could be done through seizing Russian assets abroad.

Basha's message:

It was a pleasure to meet the delegation from Ukraine at the PD, which included MPs, political experts, opinion leaders and activists.

I expressed to them my and DP's support for the leadership and people of Ukraine, who continue to face the Russian aggressors with heroic courage. These are dark days not only for Ukraine but also for the democratic world, which is facing the attempt to alienate with war the territorial integrity of a sovereign and independent state.

The responsibility for the crimes and damage caused in Ukraine by Russia's unprovoked aggression lies with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and he must pay for it.

The Russian Federation has the obligation to compensate Ukraine, its citizens, enterprises and government, for the damages caused by the illegal acts of the Russian Federation, this is the essence of the resolution proposed by me in the Council of Europe and which has wide support from member countries of this organization.
