The Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, announced today a large salary increase for police officers in July.

He made the statement during the interpellation in the Assembly with the deputy of the Democratic Party, Ervin Salianji.

" Today, Albania's image tarnished by a heavy past of many years has been cleaned. What do tourists say when they come to Albania? The first word they articulate is "security". They are tourists coming from places where security is not a problem. They say that "you go out in Tirana at night and you don't have the feeling that someone will come and steal your watch or take your bag." This happens in some European cities. We closed the year 2023 with 0 fatal criminal events against foreign visitors. We need to provide more support to the state police. We are in the last stage of consultations with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance to grant a large increase to the policemen in July ", said Balla.

According to him , "Strong strikes against criminal groups continue to intensify. Two other underworld characters have been arrested in Italy and Spain and will be extradited. In 2023 it was the lowest level of criminal events. There were 35 compared to 107 in 2013, there were 124 in 2012. 28 are detected incidents and unfortunately ⅓ of them are domestic crime incidents .
