President Ilir Meta has been attacked by his former ally Sali Berisha for the decree of dismissal of the Chief of General Staff of Bajram Begaj from Turkey. The President said that if Berisha has reservations about the constitutional aspect, he can take the matter to the Constitutional Court.
"If you have reservations about the constitutional aspect, take it to the Constitutional Court, to the Administrative Court, and to the European Court. I settled into that situation. Not that I chose it, but I thought this is the best constitutional, legal, administrative way, as it could lead to a fourth round failure and coming to a 5th round which was unnecessary.
Rama does not behave irresponsibly, this does not mean that we do not behave irresponsibly. The decree was made in Tirana, but was signed there. The decree is an institution of Albania ", said Meta.
Meta said that there were discussions on this issue, while revealing that he communicated with Bajram Begaj and the Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi.
"They officially asked me to release Begaj. You need to issue a decree and you need a date. I fulfilled a wish of an individual (Mr. Begaj) who wanted to be relieved of his duties, and we even communicated with Mr. Begaj and Peleshi to resolve this situation ".
Asked if he felt pressured by the early elections, Meta said:
"I did not respond to Edi Rama, but a loyalty between institutions. I did not feel pressured by the snap elections. I have a legal office in the Presidency, which is superior in terms of competencies.
We had some thoughts, some debates on this issue. And it has prevailed that this is the best and fairest way. I wished him (Bajram Begaj). I wish you success. We did not meet and talked on the phone. I spoke before and after the election. "I wished him well."
