CRITIC/Independent expert: The Prime Minister is lying, the government's performance is not very good, but excellent!

Expert Suflaq Kaqoli criticizing the government

TIRANA – "I don't know, I'm skeptical by nature and I can't take for granted what the prime minister or ministers say, " the well-known economic expert, Suflaq Kaqoli, thoughtfully declared during a recent television interview.

It is known that the independent specialist in economic journalism and journalistic economics has always questioned the occasional statistics on GDP per capita, foreign investment data, standard of living, employment figures, etc., embarrassing even the Albanian government itself with his expertise.

"For example," the expert continued, frowning, "the Ministry of Finance says that economic growth this year will be 4.2 percent. I highly doubt it, and I urge the minister to put his finger on it. Because according to my calculations, growth will be at least 4.9 percent."

Next, Suflaq Kaqoli tore apart INSTAT's data on the level of welfare, youth employment, and so on.

"INSTAT comes out and boasts that 20 percent of the 15-29 age group are outside the education system, unemployed and not involved in vocational training. Hey sir, where do you get these figures? Or do you just want to please the government? Because my data says that the unemployment rate in this age group is over 7.5 percent."

Expert Kaqoli did not hesitate to criticize the prime minister for excessive modesty when it comes to the government's performance.

"I have calculated that the level of modesty of the Prime Minister when talking about the achievements of his spectacular cabinet is 53 percent, or 10 percent higher than the same period last year. This modesty is becoming a habit and endangers us as a state. I call on him to take measures and reduce modesty below 10%, to adapt to the parameters of the European Union," Sufllaqi stressed, showing several graphs created for this purpose.

Suflaq Kaqoli's critical, antipathetic and skeptical attitudes towards the Albanian government and its institutions in the fields of economy, finance, foreign investment, import-export, tourism, agriculture, etc., have become proverbial in Tirana.

He always finds something to nitpick about, a detail that doesn't satisfy him, an element that doesn't leave him in good taste, a figure that he thinks the government has been inaccurate about.

But the momentum of his remarks has increased especially after news of Trump's son-in-law's mega-investment in Zvërnec-Sazan.

His controversial articles have made the rounds of public opinion, such as: " Why is the government lying when it says Ivanka will create 7 thousand jobs, when in fact there are 15 thousand!", "Kushner's resort will provide jobs for 10 thousand farmers? No, Mr. Prime Minister, there are 23 thousand!", or " Fraudulent Government: Investing 4 billion euros in Zvërnec is not just 'a good opportunity', but Unique", and so on.

Suflaq Kaqoli was also belligerent and harsh regarding the strategic investment of philanthropist businessman Alabar in the new Durrës Navy. As you all remember, the prime minister was somewhat hesitant about this 2 billion euro project.

"Yes, we will move the old port and take it to Porto Romano, a new marina for luxury yachts will be built, new buildings will be erected, thousands of people will be employed... What can I tell you, I don't think it's a bad project," the Prime Minister Palluqe said in a low voice at lunch after the project was presented.

Then Suflaq Kaqoli attacked him like a hawk: "How dare you mock Albanians? How dare you say that this is not a bad project? This is a masterpiece, you idiot! Durrës will increase tourism by 500 percent, Spitalla will become a modern mini-city, 130 thousand jobs will be created, the people of Durrës will have rose syrup in their taps instead of water, thanks to the friend of the Albanians, Alabar!"

The Prime Minister was hurt by this sting, but Suflaqe Kaqoli had no mercy:

"I've said it before. How dare you say that the government's performance is very good? Who are you playing with, do you think people are eating grass? Don't we see what is done every day?"

The head of government, who was chewing, got stuck in his throat: "You're right, Mr. Kaqol, we made some mistakes..."    

"What a mistake, the hours are being wasted! The government is working brilliantly, I must say, brilliantly! I have statistics ," and waved a stack of papers, " So please, don't lie to people that we don't eat these! "
