A new study in Great Britain has revealed that humans have caused the extinction of nearly 7.1 percent of bird species in the last 130,000 years.

Published in "Science Daily", in the research scientists have studied the impact of the human factor on the extinction of bird species.

The work developed by the scientists of the University of Birmingham concluded that at least 600 species of birds (about 7 percent) have disappeared due to humans in the last 130 thousand years.

In the research, the scientists drew attention to the effects of the extinction of bird species on the ecosystem and biodiversity, as well as their possible consequences.

"The sheer number of extinct bird species is certainly a big part of the extinction crisis, but another point we need to focus on is that each species has a job or function within the environment and therefore plays a really important role in ecosystem", said dr. Tom Matthews from the University of Birmingham.

He said the findings revealed that human actions have caused the decline of bird species diversity. According to him, the effects and consequences for 1,000 species of birds that are expected to disappear completely in the next 200 years should be investigated.

Mattews drew attention to the need to examine the protection of bird species and the causes of extinction.
