US authorities said they will charge American influencer Kai Cenat with inciting riots and chaos for events recorded in New York, where dozens of people gathered after the YouTuber promised free distribution of PlayStation 5. Cenat could be charged with inciting riots and unlawful assembly. Police say they have made more than 60 arrests.

People first gathered around 1pm local time after Cenat posted on social media - where he has more than 10 million followers and subscribers - that he would be giving away 300 free PlayStations.

By 3 p.m., hundreds had gathered in the streets around one of New York's busiest train stations. They climbed onto cars and onto the roof of the train station entrance and threw bottles at police officers who tried to disperse them.

The New York Police Department announced a "level four" mobilization, meaning about 1,000 officers were on the ground.

Cenat went live on his YouTube channel and informed followers that police are firing tear gas. "We're not going to do anything until it's safe. Everyone to themselves, because it's a war out there."

This call of his was interpreted as an incitement to riot and Cenat was arrested around 5:00 p.m. The crowd finally dispersed about an hour later.
