After the passionate glances, Musk denies: Nothing romantic with Meloni

Elon Musk denies any romance between himself and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after he called her "beautiful" at an awards ceremony in New York on Monday.

"I was there with my mother. There is no romantic relationship with Prime Minister Meloni," American tech billionaire Musk wrote on X under a photo of him and Meloni looking at each other during the gala dinner.

Musk presented the Italian prime minister with the Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council Institute on Monday, during which he described her as "someone who is even more beautiful on the inside than she is on the outside" and "authentic, honest and measured."

The Italian leader responded by praising Musk's "precious genius".

She then gave an impassioned speech in defense of Western values, at the end of which Musk - who was sitting next to his mother - stood up and applauded.

The American entrepreneur and the Italian leader have met several times in recent years and have bonded over their concern over declining birth rates in the West and interest in the potential of artificial intelligence.

Musk, who traveled to Rome several times and attended Meloni's festival of political parties in December, has also praised the Italian government for its tough immigration policy.

In recent months, he has publicly endorsed former President Donald Trump in November's US election and backed other right-wing political figures such as Argentina's libertarian Javier Milei and Brazil's conservative Jair Bolsonaro.

On Wednesday, Meloni claimed that Musk's choice to introduce her after she received the award on Monday was made months ago and had "nothing to do with the US election campaign" and Musk's support for Trump.
