British actor Idris Elba was today honored with the title of "Knight" by King Charles III, during a ceremony at Windsor Castle, as part of the New Year's Honours for services to young people, the BBC reported.
The 53-year-old actor, known for his roles in the series "The Wire" and the police drama "Luther," was recognized for his services to young people and long-standing commitment to community projects.
Elba has consistently emphasized the importance of youth empowerment and education, especially through social initiatives aimed at community development.
In 2022, the British actor founded the Elba Hope Foundation, which supports community empowerment, education, youth advocacy, and sustainable development.
Also, when Elba was just 18 years old, he received a grant from the Prince's Trust (now the King's Trust), which helped him attend acting courses at the National Musical Theatre for Young People.
It was recently announced that Elba will collaborate with King Charles III in a documentary marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the charity, which is expected to air on Netflix this fall.
At the same ceremony, Olympic champions Torvill and Dean were also honored with the titles of "Knight" and "Dame" for services to figure skating and volunteer activity, while actress and comedian Meera Syal was recognized for her contributions to literature, theater, and charity.
Comedian Paul Elliott, known for his role in the comedy series "Chuckle Brothers," also received the title MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for charitable services.
