A senior US police officer has been placed at the center of an investigation after allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a federal judge inside courthouse premises.

According to reports from the American media Bloomberg Law, it concerns Atlanta Deputy Police Chief Kelley Collier , who is suspected of having an affair with federal judge Eleanor Ross , 58.

The Committee on Judicial Conduct and Competence of the Judicial Conference of the United States confirmed last week that it had received a formal complaint regarding the matter.

According to the allegations contained in the complaint, the meetings between the two officials took place in the judge's office during working hours.

It is reported that some court employees have heard noises that have raised suspicions of inappropriate behavior in official premises.

Following the publication of these allegations, Atlanta Police announced that it has launched an internal investigation to verify whether the person mentioned in the Judiciary Committee documents is its employee and whether there were any violations of professional rules.

Kelley Collier is currently the commander of the Community Services Division at the Atlanta Police Department.

Judge Eleanor Ross is said to have received a private reprimand regarding the case.

Ross serves as a judge in the Federal Court for the Northern District of Georgia and was appointed by former US President Barack Obama , while her confirmation by the Senate took place in 2014. / Taken from NyPost
