Expert in the Department of Eye Diseases at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine, Cem Evereklioglu says that long-term use of mobile phones increases the risk of myopia in children.
He emphasized that with the development of technology, the factors that can damage people's eyes also increase.
He stated that it is impossible to keep children away from the development of technology and said that the eye moves more to see small objects on the phone and this causes a contraction.
Noting that long-term use of the phone, especially for games, can cause the rapid progression of myopia, Evereklioglu emphasized that "in 2023, in such an era, we cannot tell any child not to play with a tablet, not to watch computer. If you do this, in this case, psychological problems that appear with the child's backwardness in technology can be caused. We cannot stop this, but we can limit the time of use. So we can say that it is forbidden to play games on the mobile phone. The mobile phone, like the name itself, is made to make calls. So it should not be used to play, but with tablets, computers we can say that because they have slightly larger screens, it can be played for 1-2 hours, but it cannot be played for 10 hours".
"It has been observed that the development of myopia and its progress is slower in those who ride a bicycle outside for at least two hours a day, play football, basketball, that is, who play on the street with their friends," he said.
