Donald Trump made mass deportations a key part of his campaign since last year's US presidential election. His administration has now said it will pay $1,000 to illegal immigrants in the US who voluntarily return to their country.
The Department of Homeland Security said it is also paying for travel expenses.
"If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the best, safest, and most cost-effective way to leave the United States to avoid arrest," said US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
“DHS is now offering illegal aliens financial assistance for travel and a payment to return to their country of origin through the CBP Home application.”
The administration is pushing for those in the country illegally to "self-deport," while continuing to ask Congress for a major increase in resources for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement department responsible for removing people from the country.
