Kosovo government spokesman Përparim Kryeziu announced today that Kosovo's Defence Minister Armend Mehaj had asked for his resignation for family reasons.

Kryeziu said Mehaj asked for his removal from office after his wife has been diagnosed with a rare disease and needs special care and treatment.

The government spokesperson said Mehaj has decided to be close to the family at this time looking after the ailed woman along with his three daughters.

"Minister Armend Mehaj has requested release from duty for family reasons. His wife has been diagnosed with a rare disease and needs treatment and care in a different city than Oslo. The couple has three daughters of minor age and Minister Mehaj has asked to be near the family at this time," Said Kryeziu.

As the new Minister of Defence of Kosovo, Ejup Macedonia will now serve.
