An Italian cheese maker has died after thousands of pieces of cheese weighing 40 kg each fell on his head! The victim is Giacomo Chiaparini, 74 years old.

He had gone to check the warehouse, but for reasons still unknown, the pieces of cheese moved and fell on the owner. It took a full 12 hours to find his body.

The warehouse is located in the town of Romano di Lombardia, south of Bergamo. It housed a total of 25,000 pieces of Grana Padano cheese placed on metal racks that reached a height of 10 meters.

According to Corriere della Sera, the owner was alone in the warehouse where the cheeses were being ripened. He had gone to check the robot that turns and washes them with an automated system.

The fire service was notified by the family members of the victim who heard the loud noise caused by the falling cheese.
