US Vice President JD Vance said today that he still believes the United States and Europe are on the same team and that it is ridiculous to think there could be a rift between the two early allies.
However, Vance said at an event organized by the Munich Security Conference in Washington that the US and Europe have become too engrossed in the security posture of the last 20 years, which is not appropriate for the next 20 years, Reuters reports.
"European culture and American culture are very connected and will always be connected. I think it's completely absurd to think that it will ever be possible to create a serious divide between the United States of America and Europe," Vance stressed.
He said the Trump administration wants Russia and Ukraine to agree on some guidelines for direct talks, which, according to Vance, are necessary to end the war.
Vance said the US considers the concessions Russia has demanded too large, but said he is not that pessimistic about the chances of ending the conflict.
