Trump says TikTok buyer has been found

US President Donald Trump announced that a buyer has been secured for TikTok's US operations, potentially marking a major development in ongoing efforts to remove the popular app from Chinese control.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump revealed that "a group of very wealthy people" are behind the deal.

While he did not mention their names, he stated that their identities would be revealed within two weeks.

"We have a buyer for TikTok," Trump said, adding that the purchase still requires approval from the Chinese government.

The revelation comes months after Trump pushed for the implementation of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary-Controlled Applications Act, passed in 2024.

The law orders ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, to give up its US operations by January 19, 2025, or face a nationwide ban.

While Trump expressed confidence that Chinese President Xi Jinping would allow the sale, analysts remain cautious, citing rising tensions between Washington and Beijing.

If approved, the deal could reshape the US social media landscape and set a precedent for future technology acquisitions involving national security concerns.
