Izmir under fire, 5 neighborhoods of the Turkish tourist city evacuated

A wave of devastating fires has erupted in various regions of Turkey in recent days, transforming thousands of hectares of land.

Under threat are homes, properties, and valuable natural resources.

Turkish media reports that strong winds and difficult weather conditions are making it difficult for firefighters to extinguish the flames, while thousands of firefighters and aerial vehicles are battling to control the fire fronts.

A large fire is reported in Izmir where 5 neighborhoods of the city have been evacuated after flames entered residential areas.

Thanks to the immediate intervention of firefighters, helicopters and Forest Service teams, the flames were brought somewhat under control, but the danger remains.

Strong winds, reaching between 70 and 117 kilometers per hour, are making the work of firefighters significantly more difficult. Currently, a total of 1,113 people are working on the fire front, with the help of 122 fire engines, 74 water tankers and 84 earthmoving machines.
