US President Donald Trump said it was " too early " to begin direct peace talks between the United States and Iran, despite reports of progress towards a possible framework agreement to end the 67-day conflict.

Speaking to the New York Post, the US president was asked whether the newspaper should prepare to send a journalist to Pakistan for a new round of negotiations, after sources in Islamabad reported that a provisional peace deal was close.

Trump responded negatively, characteristically saying: " I don't think so ."

He then added: " I think we will do it, it's a long way off ."

Minutes earlier, the American president had made a new post on the Truth Social platform, where he reiterated the pressure on Tehran.

Trump's post:

If Iran agrees to implement what has already been agreed upon, which could be a big deal, then the now legendary Operation Epic Fury will end and the extremely effective blockade will allow the Strait of Hormuz to remain open to everyone, including Iran.

If they do not agree, then the bombing will begin and, unfortunately, it will be much more extensive and intense than before.
