At least 69 killed in Gaza, media: Shot while waiting for food aid

At least 69 people have been killed and dozens more injured in Gaza over the past 24 hours while waiting for humanitarian aid, at a time when US envoy Steve Witkoff is in Israel to discuss a possible ceasefire.

According to reports from the Associated Press, on Wednesday evening, large crowds of hungry people had gathered near the Zikim crossing point, on the border with Israel, waiting for trucks with aid. But they were shot with firearms.

The Al-Saraya field hospital announced that it had received over 100 killed and wounded, while the death toll is expected to rise.

The tragedy escalated further on Thursday morning, when 19 other people waiting for aid were killed by Israeli soldiers at distribution points in central Gaza and in Rafah, in the south of the territory.

Gaza's health authorities said 7 children died of starvation on Wednesday alone, bringing the total death toll from malnutrition to 154.

Meanwhile, according to international institutions that monitor food security, Gaza is experiencing a deep hunger crisis, where food shortages are leading to a complete social collapse.

In the absence of order and control, it has become common for hundreds of people to wait desperately for help, and often they end up robbed as soon as they arrive.
