Starmer: Britain is entering war readiness!
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said his country will enter a "war readiness" as he announced a military spending plan that includes building new nuclear submarines.

During a visit to the premises of one of the largest defense companies, BAE Systems, Starmer said that the United Kingdom must prepare for conflict in order to prevent conflict and that the threat from Russia cannot be ignored.

Starmer has set a target of increasing defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027-28. There is also an ambition to reach 3% by 2034, but the government has not set a definitive timetable for when this might happen.

However, NATO's latest proposal is for countries to spend 5% of GDP on defense and security spending by 2032. This will be voted on later this month.

Lithuania's defence minister called the UK's 2.5% commitment "old news" and told the BBC that 3.5% should be the minimum necessary.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told local channel DR News that 5% is achievable but is "too late," while also saying that 3% is not enough.
