Russia is launching a major military offensive aimed at capturing Ukraine's second largest city, Kharkiv.

A few days ago, the Ukrainian media reported that the Russian army had gathered a total of 50,000 troops who have already launched a tactical offensive against the city with 1.5 million inhabitants, which is located only 40 kilometers from the border with Russia.

In the first days of this surprise offensive, Russian forces, divided into small groups, managed to take control of at least 9 villages.

There are currently around 5 Russian battalions attempting to approach the city of Kharkiv to besiege it, while Ukrainian media reports that the occupiers have begun to suffer heavy losses, in some cases with over 1,500 soldiers dead in a single day.

So, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has changed the commander of the forces responsible for the defense of Kharkiv, as the area is already prepared with numerous fortifications.

About 6,000 people have been evacuated from the surrounding villages, while life in the city of Kharkiv, despite serious threats from the bombing, appears to be going on peacefully.

For many analysts, the capture of the city of Kharkiv by Russian forces means the complete destruction of the city, turning it into a ruin like Mariupol or Bakhmuti.
