Putin declares war on international media, blocks Euronews

Following the proclamation of facebook and Instagram's terrorist organisation, Russia has also blocked the news channel, Euronews. Euronews said on Tuesday that its broadcasts in Russia have been blocked due to coverage of the war in Ukraine.

"We resolutely condemn this intolerable restriction on millions of people in Russia who relied on us to receive impartial news", the Euronews channel said, adding that Russian authorities withdrew the channel from broadcasting and blocked its websites in Russia.

"Euronews" said it could take legal action to resume broadcasts in Russia. The Euronews channel airs in 160 countries around the world.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has intensified crackdowns on media and individuals who do not follow his line on Russia's war in Ukraine, blocking social media, like Facebook and Twitter, and signing a bill criminalizing the deliberate spread of "false" reports on the war in Ukraine.

The Euronews channel said it strongly rejected Russian claims that it was spreading "fake news" and that it allegedly called on Russians to protest the war. "Euronews" said it is facing an "unacceptable criminal threat" due to the new Russian law on the war in Ukraine.
