The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro described as unfounded the accusations that Podgorica is waging a hybrid war against Serbia, assessing that such statements reflect the lack of readiness of some political structures in Belgrade to accept Montenegro as a sovereign state.

The reaction came after claims by Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? that Montenegro and its media are participating in hybrid actions against Serbia.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? stated on June 14 on Serbia's Prva television that the media in Montenegro had an important role in the color revolution in Serbia, while Montenegro is waging a "hybrid war" against Serbia.

Through a statement posted on the X platform, the Montenegrin ministry assessed that the frequent statements from the neighboring state demonstrate the lack of willingness of some political structures to accept Montenegro as a sovereign and equal state, and not as a space that should be returned to imagined political centers.

She added that such statements usually intensify whenever Montenegro takes steps forward in the European Union membership process and when elections approach.

"We leave it to the public to assess whether such statements should be seen as an introduction to new campaigns of disinformation and political pressure, or as an attempt to shift attention from problems that have nothing to do with Montenegro," the statement said.

The Montenegrin ministry recalled that the decision to restore Montenegro's independence is final, democratic and internationally verified in a referendum, and added that Montenegro wants the best possible relations with all neighbors, including Serbia.

However, she stressed that such relations can only be built on the basis of mutual respect and acceptance of reality, rejecting claims that Montenegro has taken territory from anyone.
