The owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, has declared that the account of the former American president Donald Trump has returned to the platform.
The decision came after a poll Musk organized on Twitter about whether or not to bring back the former president's account.
"The people have spoken," Musk tweeted, saying 51.8% of more than 15 million Twitter users voted to lift the ban.
But the former US president may not return to the platform, declaring earlier: "I don't see any reason for that."
We recall that his account was suspended in 2021 for inciting violence during the Capitol riots.
Twitter's previous management acted just days after Donald Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, where hundreds of protesters entered the complex as Congress waited to certify Joe Biden's victory.
The ensuing violence led to the deaths of four civilians and a police officer.
Shortly after the riots, Donald Trump's Facebook, Instagram and YouTube accounts, all of which had tens of millions of followers, were also suspended.
A few months later, he launched his own social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump's return to Twitter comes at a key political moment, since a week ago he officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 elections in America.
