The European Parliament approves the Albanian-Italian model for repatriations, Meloni cannot contain his joy

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has declared that Italy has marked a "great success" after the European Parliament approved the new regulation on migrant repatriations.

In a reaction on the X platform, Meloni said that this is a historic measure aimed at accelerating the return of persons who do not have the right to reside in the European Union.

According to her, the new regulation also includes the possibility of establishing repatriation centers in third countries, an approach that she described as a continuation of the model launched by the Italian government through the protocol with Albania.

Meloni emphasized that this solution has previously faced political opposition, but according to her, it has now become an instrument available to the entire European Union.

She stated that the objective of the new policy is to manage migration more regularly and effectively, strengthen borders and accelerate the return of persons who do not meet the conditions for residence.

In another reaction, Meloni said that with the final approval of several new provisions on assisted repatriations, Italy is strengthening its instruments in managing migratory flows, emphasizing "more seriousness, more order and more efficiency."

She added that her government will continue in this direction, considering migration management as one of the main priorities of Italian and European policy.
