The Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, by decision of Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria, has suspended Metropolitan Panteleimon of Ptolemais from his duties, following an incident that occurred in Athens.

The decision was announced through an official statement from the Secretariat of the Patriarchate, which refers to a "sad event" that occurred in the Greek capital.

Although the announcement does not provide further details about the nature of the incident, the patriarchal decision shows the seriousness with which the case is being treated by the church administration.

Metropolitan Panteleimon was arrested in Athens by Greek police, following allegations that he was performing indecent acts and exposing his genitals to citizens passing by.

According to official records and police reports, the incident occurred in Petralona, ??Athens. The Metropolitan was taken to the Security Department to face the charges against him.

Indefinite suspension is one of the most serious administrative measures that can be imposed on a high-ranking cleric.

It does not constitute a punishment nor does it prejudge the outcome of the case, but is intended to ensure the proper functioning of the Church and protect the prestige of the institution until the established investigative procedures are completed.
