US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order withdrawing the US from the UN human rights council and halting future funding for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa).

US funding for Unrwa was suspended in 2024 under the Joe Biden administration, after Israel accused a small number of Unrwa employees of participating in Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.

A series of investigations, including one led by former French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, found several "neutrality-related issues" at Unrwa, but stressed that Israel had not provided evidence for its main allegations.

The first Trump administration cut funding for the agency in 2018 before the Biden administration resumed it in 2021.

The first Trump administration also withdrew the US from the UN Human Rights Council in 2018, and the Biden administration rejoined the body three years later.
