Suzana Gjekaj is the first Albanian to achieve the rank of Colonel in the US Army.

Suzana Gjekaj is an Albanian-American originally from Ulcinj, now Montenegro. She has long been a member of the United States Army, having previously held the rank of lieutenant colonel.

The rank of "Colonel" is among the highest in the US Army, meaning that it has control of a brigade or three battalions with 1,500 to 3,200 soldiers.

After the rank of Colonel comes Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, General, and General of the Army, which is the highest five-star rank.
