"They didn't help us when we needed it" - Donald Trump doesn't hold grudges against Italy

In an exclusive phone conversation with Corriere della Sera on Saturday morning, President Donald Trump declined to comment on the relocation of troops from Germany, potentially to NATO's eastern flank, while confirming that he is "still considering" the possibility of relocating troops from Italian bases.

Asked why he had published an old Salvini article in Truth Social in recent days, the president replied: "Because it seemed appropriate to me."

To Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, a day after the visit to Rome of his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, Trump reiterated: "Italy was not there when we needed it. And I have always been for Italy, as has my country."

The Corriere correspondent reminded the president that Italy could offer mine-clearing ships after the ceasefire in Iran, but he interrupted, saying once again: "Italy was not there when we needed it."

As for Iran's response letter, which was expected last night, Trump said he did not want to comment at the moment.
