"We don't have time to cry", the chilling message of the 18-year-old Palestinian girl in Gaza

An 18-year-old Palestinian woman has sent the BBC a chilling voice message from Gaza City. In her words filled with sadness, she says that her name doesn't matter and neither do their stories as she says that to the world they are just numbers.

"My name is not important. The names of my friends are not important. Our stories are not important. We're just numbers, that's how the world sees us."

Among other things, she says that they don't have time to cry because more and more of their loved ones are being killed. The 18-year-old says that they only have time to smell the death that is getting closer and closer.

"We don't cry. We don't have time to mourn our loved ones because others are being killed. We don't have time to feel. We only have time to smell the death that is getting closer and closer. We only have time to sit in a room and hug each other, asking God to take our souls together.”

Amidst the pain, she says they look forward to the night when they can sleep without being terrified by the sound of bombs as she asks if they are asking so much of this world.

"We can't wait to sleep a whole night without being terrified by the sound of falling bombs. We look forward to showering, to being tired at the end of a normal day, to hearing a laugh from a child. Are we asking for so much, world?”
