Three of the four pillars of the high-voltage line supplying the city of Cannes were "sawn" in an "act of sabotage", Grasse's prosecutor told AFP, as electricity in the area is gradually being restored.

After this sabotage in Villeneuve-Loup, network operator RTE took the high-voltage line out of operation to enable restoration work, causing a power outage in the city of Cannes, where the events of the Film Festival end today.

The outage affected 160,000 households, but not the Palais des Festivals, which turned to an independent source of electricity.

The regional governor of Alpes-Maritimes announced the "gradual restoration" of electricity.
