NATO has stated that it is in contact with the United States to understand the details of the decision to reduce American troops in Germany.
NATO spokeswoman Allison Hart said the alliance is analyzing the impact of this decision on the positioning of forces in Europe.
"We are working with the US to understand the details of their decision on the military presence in Germany. This development underlines the need for Europe to continue to invest more in defence and take a greater share of responsibility for common security," she said.
According to her, there is already progress in this direction, as allied countries have committed to increasing defense spending, aiming for higher levels of investment in relation to Gross Domestic Product.
Hart also stressed that NATO remains confident in its ability to guarantee deterrence and collective defense, even in the context of this change in the US military presence.
"We remain confident in our capacity to ensure protection and deterrence as this transition towards a stronger Europe within a stronger NATO continues," she added.
