The cardiologist of the Clinic of Cardiac Surgery at KKUK, Kushtrim Shala, shared an operation performed as a professional success on social networks, but the patient died a few hours after the intervention. The patient's death received a lot of attention and Shala received criticism from his colleagues as well. The director of the Cardiac Surgery Clinic, Rifat Brahimaj, has stated today that the doctors who performed this operation are not competent for this intervention, as long experience and expertise are needed.

"The doctors who performed this operation are not competent for such interventions because they have difficulties even in standard procedures. Entering into such a procedure without having the right experience and presenting it as a success, and the patient dies after a few hours, this is really hypocrisy", stated Brahimaj.

A reaction followed from Shala this evening, who directed a harsh response to Brahimaj, who, according to him, called the media from his annual leave to talk about his operation. Shala has said that the acute aortic dissection surgery he performed is extremely lethal if not treated in time.

"After the call for an urgent consultation from Cardiology, I saw the patient and set the indication for emergency surgery. The patient was on the margins of life. He was in ischemia of all body organs, with paralysis of the left extremities, cardiogenic shock, hypotension (due to tamponade)," he said.

It is not known if the operation was successful, because the patient died after a few hours. Therefore, the State Prosecutor has authorized the police to conduct investigations if there has been a criminal offense. This was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Prishtina Basic Prosecutor's Office, Laureta Ulaj.

"The State Prosecutor has authorized the police to take the necessary actions, in order to clarify this matter, and eventually, in the event that elements of a criminal offense are presented, further action will be taken in this case."
